Contacting Oncall

Return to Contents

The Oncall Manager is your first port of call when you have a problem during class or outside of class. The Oncall manager is mostly there for backup during the evening classes, our most important and busy time, between 20:00 and 00:00.

When you log on for a shift, please message the "ZE-Oncall" Slack channel and let us know you're logging in.

When you start a content hour, please contact Oncall and let them know so they can use you as backup, if needed.

Oncall Managers:

  • Ben - Saturday & Sunday, and from 20.00-22.00 on Tuesday and Thursday
  • Tom - Monday, Wednesday & Friday
  • Mike - Tuesday & Thursday from 22.00-midnight

To contact an Oncall manager, message ZE-Oncall on Slack or email oncall@zenglish.jp If you want to talk about a sensitive matter you can contact Ben directly using ben@lyngo.jp.

The Oncall managers monitor the classes from outside and check the technical stuff in Zoom and on the website. Whenever you have a problem in class, feel free to message us:

When an Oncall manager is in the room, don't interact with them vocally unless the class is empty. The Oncall manager will type messages to you over Slack as they observe the class.

If you are ill or need a last minute sub, use the guidance in emergency contacts section.

We are available if your having trouble explaining something in English grammar or pronunciation to students. Whether you're confused about something in the language or curious about the different use of English in different countries, give us a shout. If you just want a chat about culture or make suggestions, feel free too.

Finally, Oncall will email or message in Slack when there is a teaching opportunity or opportunity to sub classes.
