If the students can't hear you, try the following steps:

1. Check ZOOM mute controls

You can see whether you're muted at the bottom left of your Zoom Controls.

It's also at the bottom left corner of your video

If muted, click the Unmute button:

If you're unmuted, it will look like this:

A green bar will move up and down as you talk.

2. Check Hardware Mute

If you're using a headset with hardware controls, make sure they are not muted. Muted Headsets often have a red light to indicate the microphone is off.

3. Check Zoom Audio Settings

Click on the little ^ next to the "mute/unmute" button:

Double-check you have the correct microphone selected:

Unplug microphone and plug it back in again. Try another USB port.

5. Check Mic Settings In Windows

Access the "sound" tool by typing "sounds" into the Start Menu or the Windows Search Bar.

You can also access the sounds menu by heading to the Control Panel and clicking "Hardware And Sound"

Click "Change System Sounds"

Once your in the sound tool click "Recording" tab:

Find your microphone:

Make sure it's the default device. If it's not the default device, right click on it and select "set as default device"

If it appears ghosted on the list, that means it's been disabled, Right click and select "Enable".

If it doesn't appear on the list, you might need to unplug your speakers and plug them back in again. If they still don't work, they may be broken.

Try speaking, the green bar to the left of the microphone should move up and down as you talk:

Right click on the microphone and select "properties"

Select the "Levels" tab:

Check the levels:

Check the mute button:

Ensure it's unmuted:

6. Try A Different Mic

If it works with a different mic, then it's likely a problem with your microphone hardware and it might need replacing. Having a back-up mic is well worth it.
