Speaker Problems

If you can't hear the students, double check your speakers or headphones are working properly.

1. Check Your Speaker Settings In Zoom

Click on the ^ next to the "mute/unmute" button:

Ensure you have the correct speakers selected

If that doesn't fix the problem, you can click on audio settings:

Test your speakers and adjust volume. Then check the tick boxes at the bottom, we do recommend having all of them ticked.

2. Check Hardware Volume Controls

It's always worth checking any hardware volume controls. It's easy to knock a volume dial or lean on a switch by accident when teaching.

Some headsets don't have volume controls. If you don't know, check with your headsets manufacturer.

4. Check Speaker Settings In Windows

Access the "sound" tool by typing "sounds" into the Start Menu or the Windows Search Bar.

You can also access the sounds menu by heading to the Control Panel and clicking "Hardware And Sound"

Click "Change System Sounds"

Click on the playback tab

Check that your speakers are visible and enabled. If your speakers are ghosted, right click to Enable them. If they aren't on the list, that means your system isn't detecting them.

Right click on your speakers and click "properties"

Select the levels tab:

Make sure that your volume is above 0 and the speakers aren't muted.

4. Try another set of headphones or speakers

If all else fails, try another set of speakers. Such as headphones or normal desktop speakers. If they work, that means the problem is with your headset/speakers. You may need to repair or replace.
